PE Department
Year 8 - Key Stage 3
In Year 8 students are taught 3 x 50 minute lessons a week of Physical Educations. Students' work is assessed in 5 weekly units and reported termly.
The key processes of the modernised National Curriculum in Key Stage 3 PE include:
Developing skills in physical activity
Making and applying decisions
Developing physical and mental capabilities
Evaluating and improving
Making informed choices about health, active lifestyles.
In Year 8 these processes are delivered through a range of content that includes the following activities each year:
Year 8 Boys:
Fitness, Gymnastics, Dance, Orienteering, Football, Sport Education, Rugby, Athletics, Striking/Fielding, Swimming, Handball, Basketball, Volleyball.
Year 8 Girls:
Fitness, Gymnastics, Dance, Orienteering, Football, Volleyball, Netball, Athletics, Striking/Fielding, Swimming, Handball, Sport Education.
In Year 8 students are grouped according to their ability and to their gender where possible. The groups used are England, Scotland and Wales. These groupings are reviewed by the department on a termly basis which allows for students to move between groups as their skills improve.
