Mrs Howard is the Literacy Co-Ordinator for HCC. She has embraced this role by introducing a Paired Reading intervention for targeted students and implementing our Accelerated Reader programme to monitor students' Reading Ages and their progress.

 

Both these programmes aim to encourage students to discover a love of reading not only in school but also, with the help of parents, at home too.

 

In addition to targeted intervention, KS3 students are directed to have one single English lesson per week as a private reading lesson (with a teacher and teaching assistant (if appropriate for the class) on hand to help and advise). This lesson is also a good time for the students to visit our fantastic library to choose another book to enjoy!
