Year 11

Year 11

Most of the current Year 11 (2015-2016) are studying English Literature and English language. One class (Mr Williams' Year 11) are studying 'English only'.

Pupils of GCSE English at Holsworthy Community College will have the opportunity to study a Shakespeare play - probably Romeo and Juliet, Wilfred Owen poetry, novels like Steinbeck's 'Of Mice and Men' (but not for much longer!) and non-fiction literature. They will work on exam technique and continually improving literacy skills.

Parents/carers are encouraged to talk to English teachers to discuss any aspect of their child's English course. We are very aware that it can be confusing because there have been so many changes to the English curriculum - and there will continue to be! We are always happy to try and help.

Year 11

If you click on the button below you will be directed to our plan for Year 11 students who are studying the dual course (Language and Literature) to help them with their exam preparation.

Current Year 11 (2014-2015) will be studying either 'English' only or the dual course 'English Literature and English Language'. All three courses consist of Controlled Assessments (pre-prepared and done in exam conditions) and Exams, although each course differs in the percentage which each component is worth.

Every student will do 3 Speaking and Listening tasks: Individual presentation, Drama and a group presentation. The Speaking and Listening assessments will be assessed and reported on but these marks will not count towards the final GCSE grade. Colleges and future employers can always find out what teachers have awarded students for Speaking and Listening.

We have created Revision Books to help with revision for the Information & Ideas exam....copies have been printed and given to Year 11 students. Please also click on the links below to view a copy.

Please find below the links to some useful documents.....(just click on the document that interests you!)

(so that students can practice at any time. Students should take finished essays to their English teachers to mark).
