Welcome to the English Department

We love teaching students all about English and English literature!  Everyone in the department is highly trained and motivated.  We are fortunate to have seven teachers who are passionate about delivering a challenging and engaging curriculum to everyone. We strive to pass on our love of English to our pupils and that many of them go on to study the subjects at a higher level.

 

Our long term and medium term plans have been re-designed for the demands of the new curriculum.  We believe in exploring and analysing a range of texts whilst also ensuring our students have opportunities to be creative and to experiment with language.

 

Students work cooperatively together. Individual, paired and group work helps to ensure that ideas are shared and used to deepen understanding and develop skills.

 

Spelling, punctuation, accuracy and grammar are still core to our curriculum and we teach these skills through literature, as well as having explicit lessons and resources.

 

We welcome professional development and innovation and are keen to use new technologies to support students’ abilities and understanding.
